Current mood: sleepy
Current music:Kanne Navamaniye (BJ's lullaby)

Vaatsalyam - a collection of lullabies by BJ
Bombay Jayashree's 'Vaatsalyam' which is a collection of lullabies in different Indian languages is sure to put the listeners to sleep.

Loved all the songs.
Especially the tamizh numbers (one by Kulasekhara Perumal, and another 'Kanne Navamaniye' a folk lore) have amazing lyrics. 'Omana thingal kidaavo' a famous Malayalam number is also so melodious to listen. I am planning to learn the songs by listening daily, but before i finish listening to one, i am in my deepest sleep.

Yeah, BJ somehow gets lost in between Carnatic & hindusthani. Hmm, but still i being a bigtime BJ fan can still manage to listen to her songs. May be her songs lack gr8 stuff technically speaking. But i can swear that her bhAvam is far better than Nityasri's. Or rather, NithyaSri's voice suits more the songs which have a Gambeera rasam and it is certainly not for KarunA rasam/ shringAra rasam. Whereas BJ's voice rocks !
After all, music is also about how you feel at the end of listening to a song. So i think 'BJ' is okay and good enough. :)

Ok, I officially declare war against You! muahahahaha! :)

Have you heard Nithyashree sing 'Sujana Jeevana' (khamas)? Have you heard Nithyashree sing 'Sodanai Chumai' (kapi)? These are just two examples of Nithyashree impressing the intended bhavam upon you. I can understand that Nithyashree probably lacks that 'bhavam' part because she 'dissects' down the music and cuts it open and shows it out to you (like how her patti DKP does :) )... and due to the 'hindustani' mixing of other artists, they may probably add more 'effect' onto the listener. But Nithyashree wins, when it comes to the clarity of pronunciation, the kalpana, the overall rendition...

AND... (give a long pause here)

...the sweetness of her voice (short frequency band == cleaner voice and no 'husky noise' around her voice like that of a BJ ;) ). Load a spectrum analyser and watch both BJ and Nithyashree.

Peace!

Sunson-san!
Relax Maadi!! (Waving a white coloured flag)
I've nt listened to both 'Sujana Jeevana' and 'Sodhanai Chumai' of NithyaSri. But i've felt 'Sodhani Chumai' of BJ is quite good. And if you get a chance to listen to 'Sujana Jeevana' of Nedunuri Ji (one of the oldest and gr8 singers in AP), do that. My teacher learnt from him and taught it to me. She says it is different and more good than DKP's. I've not listened to DKP/NithyaSri's 'Sujana Jeevana'.

Fine.. When it comes to the 'normal unfledged listener' (assuming that he is more impressed by the voice or the 'husky' effect and the 'Bhavam'), he would appreciate BJ than NithyaSri is what my claim is, not taking into account the overall rendition and many other factors which you have mentioned.

If one hears tyagaraja songs by nityashree they can make out tamil touch in each one of them. There is this dravidian inclination in her presentation while music bereft of classical devanagari pronounciation is far from finery
